SONG XIV.

Examples of early Piety.

I.
1 WHAT bless'd Examples do I find:
2 Writ in the Word of Truth,
3 Of Children that began to mind.
4 Religion in their Youth?
II.
5 JESUS, who reigns above the Sky,
6 And keeps the World in Awe,
7 Was once a Child as young as I,
8 And kept his Father's Law.
[Page 21]
III.
9 At Twelve Years old he talk'd with Men,
10 (The Jews all wond'ring stand)
11 Yet he obey'd his Mother then,
12 And came at her Command.
IV.
13 Children a sweet Hosanna sung,
14 And blest their Saviour's Name;
15 They gave him Honour with their Tongue,
16 While Scribes and Priests blaspheme.
V.
17 SAMUEL the Child was wean'd and brought
18 To wait upon the LORD;
19 Young TIMOTHY betimes was taught
20 To know his holy Word.
VI.
21 Then why should I so long delay
22 What others learnt so soon?
23 I would not pass another Day
24 Without this Work begun.
