SONG VII.

The Excellency of the BIBLE.

I.
1 GREAT GOD, with Wonder and with Praise
2 On all thy Works I look;
3 But still thy Wisdom, Pow'r and Grace,
4 Shine brightest in thy Book.
II.
5 The Stars that in their Courses roll,
6 Have much Instruction giv'n;
7 But thy good Word informs my Soul
8 How I may climb to Heav'n.
III.
9 The Fields provide me Food, and show
10 The Goodness of the LORD;
11 But Fruits of Life and Glory grow
12 In thy most holy Word.
IV.
13 Here are my choicest Treasures hid,
14 Here my best Comfort lies;
15 Here my Desires are satisfy'd,
16 And hence my Hopes arise.
[Page 11]
V.
17 LORD, make me understand thy Law;
18 Shew what my Faults have been;
19 And from thy Gospel let me draw
20 Pardon for all my Sin.
VI.
21 Here would I learn how CHRIST has dy'd
22 To save my Soul from Hell:
23 Not all the Books on Earth beside
24 Such heav'nly Wonders tell.
VII.
25 Then let me love my Bible more,
26 And take a fresh Delight
27 By Day to read these Wonders o'er,
28 And meditate by Night.
