The Old Fumbler.

A SONG: Set by Mr. Hen. Purcell.

I.
1 SMug, rich and fantastick old Fumbler was known,
2 That wedded a Juicy brisk Girl of the Town,
3 Her Face like an Angel, Fair, Plump, and a Maid,
4 Her Lute well in tune too, cou'd he but have plaid;
5 But lost was his Skill let him do what he can,
6 She finds him in Bed a weak silly old Man,
7 He Coughs in her Ear, 'tis in vain to come on,
8 Forgive me, my Dear, I'm a silly old man.
II.
9 She laid his dry hand on her snowy soft Breast,
10 And from those white Hills gave a glimpse of the Best;
11 But ah! what is Age when our Youth's but a Span,
12 She found him an Infant instead of a Man:
[Page 143]
13 Ah! Pardon, he'd cry, that I'm weary so soon,
14 You have let down my Base, I'm no longer in tune,
15 Lay by the dear Instrument, prethee lie still,
16 I can play but one Lesson and that I play Ill.
