1 SWEETEST! if thy fairy hand
2 Culls for me the latest flowers,
3 Smiling hear me thus demand
4 Blessings for thy early hours:
5 Be thy promised spring as bright
6 As its opening charms foretel;
7 Graced with Beauty's lovely light,
8 Modest Virtue's dearer spell.
9 Be thy summer's matron bloom
10 Blest with blossoms sweet like thee;
11 May no tempest's sudden doom
12 Blast thy hope's fair nursery!
13 May thine autumn calm, serene,
14 Never want some lingering flower,
15 Which affection's hand may glean,
16 Though the darkling mists may lower!
17 Sunshine cheer thy wintry day,
18 Tranquil conscience, peace, and love;
19 And thy wintry nights display
20 Streams of glorious light above.
