On the CRUCIFIXION.
I.
1 BEHOLD the Saviour of Mankind
2 Nail'd to the shameful Tree!
3 How vast the Love that Him inclin'd
4 To bleed and die for Thee!
II.
5 Hark how he groans! while Nature shakes,
6 And Earth's strong Pillars bend!
7 The Temple's Veil in sunder breaks,
8 The solid Marbles rend.
III.
[Page 132]9 'Tis done! the precious Ransom's paid;
10 Receive my Soul, he cries;
11 See where he bows his sacred Head!
12 He bows his Head and dies.
IV.
13 But soon He'll break Death's envious Chain,
14 And in full Glory shine!
15 O Lamb of GOD, was ever Pain,
16 Was ever Love like Thine!
