The Law and Gospel.

I.
1 "CURST be the Man, for ever Curst
2 " That doth the smallest Sin commit,
3 "Death and Damnation for the First,
4 " Without Relief and Infinite.
II.
5 Thus Sinai roars; and round the Earth
6 Thunder and Fire and Vengeance flings;
7 But Jesus, thy dear gasping Breath
8 And Calvary says Gentler things.
III.
9 "Pardon, and Grace and boundless Love
10 " Streaming along a Saviour's Blood,
[Page 96]
11 "And Life and Joys and Crowns above
12 " Dear purchas'd by a Bleeding God.
IV.
13 Hark, how he prays, (the Charming Sound
14 Dwells on his Dying Lips) Forgive;
15 And every Groan and gaping Wound
16 Cries, "Father, Let the Rebels Live.
V.
17 Go you that rest upon the Law,
18 And toil and seek Salvation there,
19 Look to the Flames that Moses saw,
20 And shrink, and tremble, and despair.
VI.
21 But I'll retire beneath the Cross,
22 Saviour, at thy dear Feet I lie;
23 And the keen Sword that Justice draws
24 Flaming and Red shall pass me by.
